Rio Hondo College came up just short in snapping a season-long losing streak but instead suffered a 3-2 defeat to L.A. Pierce College on Friday. The Western State Conference loss dropped the Roadrunners to 1-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Pierce earned wins at No. 1, 2, and 3 to secure the match. But the Rio Hondo duos of Erika Mendoza and Stephanie Rios at No. 4 and Romy Ramos and Kassandra Casas at No. 5 picked up victories. Mendoza and Rios beat the Pierce team of Megan Weaver and Valentina Krivokapic 17-21, 21-13, 15-7 while Ramos and Casa defeated Cairo Harrell and Sade Escobar 19-21, 21-13, 15-11.

Rio Hondo returns to action next Friday (Apr. 15) at 10 a.m. when the Roadrunners travel to Bakersfield College to take on the host Renegades and Antelope Valley College in conference matches.
