Beach Volleyball: Alferez, Cruz fall to eventual state champions

The Rio Hondo College women's beach volleyball pairs duo of Paula Alferez and Carleigh Cruz had an impressive first season come to an end with a 21-10, 21-11 loss to Irvine Valley College's Emily Reinking and Hailee Earnest in an opening round match of the 2016 CCCAA State Championship pairs tournament at Grossmont College in El Cajon. Reinking and Earnest went on to win the state title.

"The Rio duo played great against a very strong IVC team on Saturday," said head coach Teddi Esko. "Unfortunately, we were defeated in two sets. However, the girls played the best volleyball they've played all season."

Rio Hondo played its inaugural season of women's beach volleyball in 2016 and compiled a 2-6 record in the Western State Conference to finish in fifth place.
