Arianna Amezcua went 2 for 3 to lead Rio Hondo College at the plate in an 8-1 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Chaffey College on Tuesday.
Chaffey got out in front early, scoring a run in the top of the first and second innings before blowing the game open with a six-run rally in the third.
Down 8-0, Rio Hondo scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Amber Gutierrez reached base via a fielder's choice and promptly came in to score on a clutch two-out double by Azucena Enriquez.
Madeline Peralta took the loss for Rio Hondo. She allowed seven earned runs and nine hits over three innings. Amezcua pitched well in relief, tossing four scoreless innings to close out the game.
The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 4-7-1 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday (Feb. 21) when they travel to Pasadena City College for a SCC game.
