Thanks to four top-8 individual finishes, Rio Hondo College totaled 36 points to finish in 11th place out of 20 teams at the 2015 CCCAA Wrestling State Championships at Fresno City College.

Leading the Roadrunners at the State Championships was Daniel Romero at the 141-pound weight class. He pushed Josh Bennett of Sierra College into sudden death but ultimately lost in the championship final by a score of 5-4.

Looking to be holding a comfortable 3-1 lead late in the third period, Bennett was called for a pair of one-point penalties in the final three seconds of the match, which sent it to overtime. Neither wrestler scored in the 1:00 overtime, with the match moving to sudden victory. Bennett, who was the less aggressive of the two, was able to score a reversal with :11 seconds in the first sudden victory period. Romero recorded an escape point with :03 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough to pull out the win.

With his second-place finish, Romero earned All-American honors.

At 165 pounds, Roger Arce defeated Louie DeLaTorre of Palomar with a 4-1 decision in the fifth-place match.

Finishing in eighth place at the State Championships were Elias Mercado at 141 pounds and Joshua Escobedo at 197. Mercado suffered a 6-4 loss in sudden victory to Ezra Clark of Skyline in the seventh-place match while Escobedo lost by pin to Raul Briseno of Palomar at 3:43.
