The 2019 Rio Hondo College women's soccer season began on Thursday with the Roadrunners earning a 1-1 draw against Hartnell College in the first day of action at the New Balance Community College Showcase at Ventura College.
Rio Hondo closes out the tournament with a 4 p.m. against Clovis Community College on Friday at the Ventura Sports-Plex.
Sophomore Vivian Viramontes gave Rio Hondo a 1-0 lead with her goal in the 15th minute off the assist from sophomore Lismed Salcido. But the Roadrunners would be held scoreless the rest of the way.
Hartnell got the equalizer in the 30th minute thanks to a goal by Carly Lowi. Both teams battled the rest of the way with the defenses prevailing.
Including tomorrow's contest in Ventura, Rio Hondo will play its next three games on the road before its home opener on Sep. 13 against Fullerton College at 6 p.m.
