Steve Hebert arrived at Rio Hondo College in the fall of 2001 after 16 years as an athletic director, head coach and teacher at the high school level.  He was originally hired to be the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Physical Education instructor and carried those duties out until January of 2013 when he took over as the Dean of Kinesiology, Dance, and Athletics and athletic director. 

Hebert served the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association as a board member for nine years and was president of the association from 2010-12.  He is an active member of the California Community College Athletic Director’s Association and serves on several state committees. 

Hebert grew up in the Central Valley of California in the rural town of Dinuba. After graduating from Dinuba High School, he attended both Reedley College and College of the Sequoias before transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to complete his bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1984.  He earned his master’s degree in education in 1992 with an emphasis on physical education from Azusa Pacific University.

Hebert began his career as a teacher (science) at Fred W. Hosler Jr. High in Lynwood in 1985.  He then took a teaching (science) and coaching (football, basketball, golf) position at Dinuba High from 1986-88.  In 1988, Hebert was hired to be the head basketball coach and PE teacher at Monrovia High School.  He also coached football and baseball for the Wildcats, and also began to teach health courses.  In 1991, he was hired as head basketball coach at Don Lugo High in Chino and also served as the athletic director from 1996-98 at the school. Hebert left Don Lugo after 10 years to join the Roadrunner family. 

He has two daughters, Jessica and Danielle. Hebert currently resides in Huntington Beach.
