LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Emily Liu posted a double-double with season highs of 26 points and 16 rebounds to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 71-53 victory in its South Coast Conference North Division opener on Wednesday at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College.
The win snapped the Roadrunners' seven-game losing streak and moved Rio Hondo to 4-17 overall.
Rio Hondo held a 39-20 advantage at halftime as was able to build on that lead as the contest progressed.
Liu made 10 of 16 shots including 3 three-pointers. She also added 4 blocks and 3 assists to her huge night.
Hasma Valdes had a double-double of her own, adding 13 points and 12 rebounds. Miranda Morales contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals while Emi Naruko scored 10 points.
Rio Hondo returns to action next Wednesday (Jan. 31) when the Roadrunners host Pasadena City College in a 7 p.m. SCC North Division game.
