Rio Hondo takes 82-79 road win at LA Pierce
WOODLAND HILLS – Rio Hondo College earned its second straight win, this time defeating Los Angeles Pierce College on the road by a final score of 82-79 on Friday night.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 14-4 advantage to open the contest and was up 50-40 at halftime. LA Pierce rallied in the second to go out in front midway through the second half, but Rio Hondo put together a 10-2 run to erase a 66-61 Pierce lead and held on for the win.
Matthew Rodriguez led Rio Hondo with 21 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 at the line. He added seven rebounds and three assists. Ryan Osborne followed with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting and a team-high eight rebounds.
Bobby Reyes recorded 16 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals, while Isaiah Edwards finished with 10 points and two steals. Sebastian Esparza added six points, knocking down two three-pointers.
Joaquin Arciaga scored five points off the bench, and Corlin Bryant contributed four points, six rebounds and a block.
Rio Hondo improved to 5-8 overall and has won five of its last seven games. The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday (Dec. 17) when they travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 3 p.m. game.
