TORRANCE – Matthew Rodriguez and Corlin Bryant both scored 18 points each to help lead Rio Hondo College to an 85-73 South Coast Conference interdivision win at El Camino College on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Roadrunners moved to 8-8 overall.
Rio Hondo trailed in the first half and was down 35-33 with three minutes until the break. But the Roadrunners went on a 9-2 run to close out the half and went into the locker room with a narrow 42-37 lead. Rio Hondo kept that advantage for the rest of the game and never looked back.
Rodriguez went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line while adding five rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block. Bryant was also 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and added three assists.
Bobby Reyes totaled 17 points to go along with a game-high eight steals and Isaiah Edwards chipped in nine points. Bode Karunwi contributed 13 points and three steals. Ryan Osborne contributed a double-double to the win with 10 points and 11 boards.
Free throws played a big role in the victory over the Warriors. Rio Hondo shot 94 percent, making an impressive 31-of-33 from the line.
The Roadrunners are back in action on January 9 at Compton College.
