Rio Hondo drops SCC game at El Camino
By Sergio Ramos
El Camino College erupted for eight runs and held Rio Hondo College to just two hits en route to an 8–0 victory in a five-inning softball matchup.
El Camino set the tone early with aggressive baserunning and timely extra-base hits. Kate Pedroza sparked the offense with a two-hit performance and scored twice, while Trinity Martinez delivered a big day at the plate with two hits, including a double and triple, driving in a run and scoring twice.
The Warriors' offense broke the game open with several key RBI knocks. Athena Singer provided the biggest swing, blasting a triple that drove in three runs, while Emma Padilla added a triple of her own and finished with two RBIs. Abigale Dedech and Martinez also contributed RBIs as El Camino tallied seven hits and eight runs.
In the circle, Estrella Tapia earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three. Isabella Cardona finished the game with two innings of relief to complete the combined two-hit shutout.
Rio Hondo struggled to generate offense against the Warriors' pitching staff. Hailey Gutierrez and Julissa Flores recorded the only hits for the Roadrunners, while Delilah Perez took the loss after pitching four innings in the circle.
Despite putting the ball in play consistently, Rio Hondo was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities and stranded four runners. El Camino's defense and pitching kept the Roadrunners off the scoreboard throughout the contest.
With the victory, El Camino controlled the game from start to finish behind timely hitting and solid pitching to secure the 8–0 win.
