Rio Hondo edged 2-1 in eight innings at Oxnard
OXNARD — The Rio Hondo College softball team fell 2-1 at Oxnard College on Thursday in a non-conference game that stretched to eight innings.
The Roadrunners took an early lead when Alyssa Pallan stole home in the first inning after reaching on an error and stealing second. It was the only run Rio Hondo would score.
Oxnard tied the game in the fifth on an RBI double by Alizsa Rosas that scored Isabela Nava, then won it in the eighth when Alizabeth Rosas singled home Taetum Bill, who had walked, moved to third on a wild pitch and advanced on a sacrifice bunt.
Delilah Perez started and went 7 1/3 innings for Rio Hondo, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Oxnard's Taetum Bill pitched six innings, giving up one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts, before Amber Cervantez closed out the final two innings without allowing a hit.
Rio Hondo finished with three hits — a triple by shortstop Gisslle Ramirez-Huerta and singles by Pallan and Tatyana Caudillo-Wilson.
The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 2-15 overall. The Roadrunners are back in action on Saturday (March 7) at Southwestern College.
