Roadrunners battle in doubleheader losses to San Diego City

Game 1: San Diego City 10, Rio Hondo 9
In the first game of a double header San Diego City College outlasted Rio Hondo College in a back-and-forth offensive battle, holding on for a 10–9 victory in a high-scoring softball matchup.
San Diego City jumped out early behind the hot bat of Nicole Fonti, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs, and four stolen bases, creating constant pressure on the basepaths. Francesca Tapia was equally impactful, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Rylee Leon helped her own cause with two RBIs in the circle and at the plate. Everly Sandoval added two RBIs, giving the Knights a balanced offensive attack.
Despite being outhit, San Diego City capitalized on key moments and aggressive baserunning, swiping multiple bases and taking advantage of defensive miscues to build their lead.
Rio Hondo responded with an impressive offensive showing, tallying 15 hits and nearly completing the comeback. Gisslle Ramirez-Huerta led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Tatyana Caudillo-Wilson added three hits and an RBI, while Julissa Flores also went a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in a run.
The Roadrunners continued to chip away throughout the game. Sayuri Marquez delivered a clutch two-run double, and Alona Sanchez added two RBIs to keep Rio Hondo within striking distance late.
In the circle, Rylee Leon went the distance for San Diego City to earn the win, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 15 hits while striking out five. For Rio Hondo, Delilah Perez took the loss after allowing 10 runs (seven earned) across seven innings.
Rio Hondo had opportunities down the stretch but stranded nine runners and couldn't quite complete the rally, as San Diego City held on in the final innings.
Game 2: San Diego City 20, Rio Hondo 5 (5 innings)
San Diego City College completed a doubleheader sweep of Rio Hondo College with an explosive 20–5 victory in Game 2, showcasing a relentless offensive attack from start to finish.
The Knights wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, piling up runs behind a balanced and powerful lineup that produced 15 hits and 18 RBIs. Nicole Fonti led the charge with a huge performance, driving in four runs while also swiping three bases and later earning the win in the circle. Francesca Tapia continued her strong day in the doubleheader, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk.
San Diego City's lineup delivered production throughout. Everly Sandoval scored four runs and collected three hits, while Natalya Powers added three RBIs and two extra-base hits. Nikki Rocha and Dakota Chazaro each drove in two runs, as the Knights consistently capitalized on scoring opportunities.
Rio Hondo showed some early fight offensively, scoring five runs on six hits. Mia Godinez and Hailey Gutierrez each drove in a run, while Natalie Sosa contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Alona Sanchez also drove in a run, and Tatyana Caudillo-Wilson and Julissa Flores each added hits.
However, the game quickly tilted in San Diego City's favor as they took advantage of defensive miscues. Rio Hondo committed multiple errors, leading to a large number of unearned runs that allowed the Knights to break the game open.
In the circle, Nicole Fonti earned the win, allowing five runs over three innings, while Rylee Leon closed out the final two innings with scoreless relief. For Rio Hondo, Delilah Perez took the loss after facing constant pressure from the Knights' offense.
With aggressive baserunning, timely hitting, and the ability to capitalize on mistakes, San Diego City rolled to a commanding 20–5 win to close out the doubleheader.
