WHITTIER – Jaden Hill-Massarotti scored 28 points, with 10 coming in the fourth quarter, to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 77-73 non-conference win over visiting West Los Angeles College on Monday.
A big 27-point, second-quarter gave Rio Hondo a 43-35 lead at halftime that the Roadrunners wouldn't give up. West LA rallied late and was within three points, 76-73, with 23 seconds left in the fourth. But Hill-Massarotti sank a free throw with 12 seconds remaining to ice the win and the Wildcats missed a three-pointer moments before the final whistle.
Hill-Massarotti added 8 assists and 3 rebounds to her big game. Hesma Valdes posted another double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. And Alexia Valencia contributed 20 points and 4 steals to the win as well.
The Roadrunners have won four of their last eight games to improve to 8-11 overall. They will host No. 9 state-ranked Victor Valley College on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season.
