NAPA – Sophomore Miranda Morales and freshman Adreinne Bausley had huge weekends on their way to all-tournament team honors for Rio Hondo College at the Napa Valley College Storm Surge tournament.
The Roadrunners went 2-1 at the tourney, advancing to the tournament championship game. Rio Hondo opened the three-day event on Thursday with an 80-68 win over College of the Siskiyous and followed that with a 78-66 victory against Los Medanos College on Friday. But the run came to an end with a 71-64 loss to host Napa Valley in the tournament final.
Morales averaged 28.3 points while Bausley averaged 17.0 points over the three games at the tournament to lead the Roadrunners.
Rio Hondo 80, Siskiyous 68
The Roadrunners erased a 43-36 halftime deficit to pull out the opening-day victory. Morales scored a season-high 36 points and grabbed 6 rebounds with Bausley adding 15 points and 4 boards.
Rio Hondo 78, Los Medanos 66
The Roadrunners were down by two points (14-12) after the first quarter before outscoring Los Medanos 23-12 in the second to go out in front for good with a 35-26 halftime lead.
Morales once again led with 27 points and 5 rebounds with Bausley pouring in a season-high 24 points.
Napa Valley 71, Rio Hondo 64
Host Napa Valley was too much for the Roadrunners as they dropped the tournament championship. Morales battled with 22 points and had 5 steals with Bausley contributing 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Rio Hondo moved to 6-7 overall after the weekend's action. The Roadrunners had snapped a four-game losing streak with Thursday's win. Rio Hondo is back in action on Friday (Dec. 19) when it opens the two-day Glendale College Holiday Crossover. The Roadrunners are scheduled to take on Irvine Valley College at 5 p.m. and face Allan Hancock College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
