WHITTIER – Sophomore Miranda Morales' jumper with 43 seconds left in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner as Rio Hondo College defeated visiting Los Angeles Harbor College by a final score of 70-64 on Friday night.
The back-and-forth battle came down to the final minute as LA Harbor rallied to tie up the game at 64-64 with 56 seconds to play in the contest. But the Roadrunners outscored the Seahawks 6-0 over the final moments with three free throws by Adreinne Bausley icing the victory.
Morales led all scorers with 24 points, connecting on five three-pointers. She also added five rebounds and three steals. Bausley followed with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Toni Vizcaino posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks.
Kathleen Rachmat provided a spark off the bench with six points and four steals. Brooklyn Romero finished with five points and four assists, and Alicia Lara contributed four points, four rebounds, and two steals.
The South Coast Conference interdivision win evened up Rio Hondo's overall record at 10-10. The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 21) when they host Los Angeles Trade-Tech in a SCC interdivision game.
