Rio Hondo named No. 18 seed for regional playoffs; four Roadrunners named All-SCC
The Rio Hondo College women's basketball team is headed back to the postseason.
On Sunday, the Roadrunners received the No. 18 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs and will travel to face No. 15-seeded Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga for an opening-round playoff game on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at 7 p.m.
Ticket prices for the 3C2A postseason game are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.
Rio Hondo returns to the playoffs after a two-year absence. Under head coach Rene Herrera, the Roadrunners have reached the postseason in five of the last seven seasons.
His squad will take a 13-15 overall record into Wednesday's contest. The Roadrunners won their final two regular-season games, taking down East Los Angeles College and Pasadena City College to secure the postseason bid and finish tied for third-place in the South Coast Conference North Division standings at 3-5.
No. 15 Chaffey closed the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and tied for third place in the final Inland Empire Conference standings at 9-5.
Wednesday will mark the first meeting of the season between Rio Hondo and Chaffey with the winner moving to take on No. 2-seeded Irvine Valley College in a second-round game on Saturday (Feb. 28). Three wins are needed by the Roadrunners to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on March 12-15 at College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
