Roadrunners finish fourth at Santa Ana Tournament
SANTA ANA – Led by a first-place finish by sophomore Larry Cruz, the Rio Hondo College wrestling team totaled 100 points to finish in fourth place out of 12 teams at the Santa Ana College Tournament.
Overall, the Roadrunners had seven individuals finish among the top-five in their respective weight divisions.
Cruz was dominant on his way to the 157-pound championship. He went 3-0, winning all three matches by fall. In the final, Cruz scored a 16-1 technical fall over Manuel Sandoval of East Los Angeles College.
The Roadrunners got third-place finishes from Mason Barros-Santiago at 125, Edmon Altunyan at 133, and Turner Yanagisawa at 165. Lucas Long (133) and Matthew Flores (165) took fourth, and Adam Duong earned a fifth-place showing at 149.
Rio Hondo returns to dual meet action on Oct. 8 when they take on Cerritos College.
