Roadrunners take down Southwestern 7-2 for first win
WHITTIER – The Rio Hondo College women's tennis team captured its first win of the early season, defeating visiting Southwestern College by a final score of 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.
The Roadrunners got solid play at doubles, winning all three matches, and took four of six singles contests for the victory.
Doubles wins went to the duos of Makayla Glover/Sophia Chavez at No. 1 (8-6), Princess Arevalo/Bethany Rosas at No. 2 (8-1), and Jenavie Corral/Desiree Hernandez at No. 3 (8-0).
Rio Hondo got a close win at No. 3 singles from Rosas (7-5, 6-1) while Arevalo (No. 4, 6-0, 6-0), Corral (No. 5, 6-1, 6-0), and Hernandez (No. 6, 6-0, 6-1) dominated their opponents for victories.
Rio Hondo improved to 1-1 overall and is back in action on Tuesday (Feb. 3) when the Roadrunners host Mt. San Jacinto College in a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
