Roadrunners come up short in narrow loss to Fullerton
WHITTIER – Freshman Erik Aguirre totaled 5 goals, 6 steals, and 2 assists to lead Rio Hondo College in a tough 14-11 non-conference loss at home to Fullerton College on Wednesday.
The Roadrunners went into the fourth quarter trailing by just one goal at 11-10 but Fullerton was able to outscore Rio Hondo 4-1 over the final period to hang on for the win.
Jacob Medrano tallied 3 goals and an assist for Rio Hondo, Also scoring for the Roadrunners were Josh Calderon (2 goals) and Jamie Barragan.
Goalie Christopher Ayala was credited with 8 saves for the Roadrunners.
The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 0-5. The Roadrunners are back in action on Friday (Sep. 12) when they travel to Palomar College for a pair of non-conference matches. Rio Hondo will face host Palomar at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Grossmont College.
