Roadrunners battle at Cerritos Mini Tournament

NORWALK – The Rio Hondo College men's water polo team made the short trip to Cerritos College for a pair of non-conference games on Saturday. Despite battling in both contests, the Roadrunners came home with a pair of tough losses.
Rio Hondo opened the day with a 20-11 setback to Santa Monica College. Later in the day, the Roadrunners played a much closer game but came up short in a 14-10 defeat to Southwestern College.
Freshman Arik Aguirre had a big day despite the losses. He combined to score 14 of the Roadrunners' 21 goals over the two games. He had seven goals each against Santa Monica and Southwestern.
Rio Hondo also got goals from Josh Calderon (2), Jacob Medrano, and Mikey Rodriguez against Santa Monica while Calderon added three more goals against Southwestern.
Goalie Christopher Ayala tallied 11 saves over the two games for the Roadrunners.
Rio Hondo is still in search of its first win and fell to 0-17 after the day's action. The Roadrunners return to the pool on Wednesday (Oct. 15) for a 3 p.m. South Coast Conference game at home against El Camino College.
