SANTA ANA – The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team won consecutive matches for the first time this season thanks to a 3-1 non-conference victory at Santa Ana College on Wednesday night.
After dropping the opening set, the Roadrunners rallied to the win final three to take the match by scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18. Rio Hondo improved to 2-5 overall after opening the season with five losses.
Nymeria Puga and Rebecca Tarango led the Roadrunners on offense with 10 kills each. Madden Mesina-Rowe had a solid match with 8 kills, 9 digs, and 3 aces while Aliana Isabell Paxon totaled 7 kills, 9 digs, and 2 aces.
Annais Rodriguez was big in the win with a team-best 27 assists and 9 aces as well as 11 digs. Lyllianna Aguayo led Rio Hondo with 12 digs.
The Roadrunners are back in action on Friday (Sep. 12) when they host Citrus College in a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
