LANCASTER – The 2025 Rio Hondo College women's volleyball season got off to a rough start as the Roadrunners suffered a 3-1 loss at Antelope Valley College on Friday.
Despite the final outcome, the Roadrunners battled in a 25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22 defeat.
Freshman Nymeria Puga had a solid Rio Hondo debut as she led her squad with 8 kills and 5 blocks (4 solo). Freshmen Madden Mesina-Rowe, Adelyn Wong, and Aliana Isabelle Paxon also showed off their potential with 7 kills each. Paxon added 16 digs and 9 assists on her impressive opener.
Freshman Annais Rodriguez had a team-high 12 assists and Ilene Vazquez contributed 11 digs and 5 assists.
Rio Hondo, now 0-1, is back in action on Wednesday (Aug. 27) when the Roadrunners will compete in a pair of matches at Cerro Coso College. Rio Hondo is set to take on Clovis Community College at 3 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. contest against host Cerro Coso.
