WHITTIER – Haden Mesina-Rowe and Mymeria Puga both had 11 kills each to help lead Rio Hondo College to its second straight victory, a 3-0 sweep of visiting Compton College on Wednesday.
The Roadrunners dominated the Coyotes in the South Coast Conference interdivision match, winning by scores of 25-9, 25-9, and 25-12.
Mesina-Rowe added a team-high 7 digs and a pair of aces to her outstanding night. Annais Rodriguez paced the offense with 36 assists while Aliana Isabelle Paxon contributed 8 kills and 6 digs, and 2 aces to the win.
Rio Hondo won in its previous match at Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday, also by a sweep. The Roadrunners were challenged but won by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 26-24.
This time it was Paxon and Puga to lead the offense with each slamming home 12 kills. Adelyn Wong chipped in with 8 kills and Ilene Vasquez had a team-high 17 digs. Rodriguez had a solid match with 21 assists and 10 digs.
With the two wins, the Roadrunners improved to 4-7 overall this season. They are back in action on September 26 to take on Long Beach City College at home.
