MONTEREY PARK – Freshman Aliana Isabelle Paxon and Nymeria Puga both had 15 kills each to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 3-1 South Coast Conference win at East Los Angeles College on Wednesday.
Rio Hondo nearly pulled off the sweep but had to settle for a 25-17, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22 victory. The Roadrunners have won back-to-back matches to improve to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the SCC.
Paxon and Puga combined for 30 kills and 26 digs. Paxon added 14 digs as well as a pair of aces and 3 blocks while Puga had 12 digs.
Rebecca Tarango contributed 9 kills, Lyllianna Aguyo matched Paxon with 14 digs while Annais Rodriguez totaled 38 assists and 10 digs.
Rio Hondo will look to keep the momentum going next Wednesday (Oct. 22) when the Roadrunners travel to nearby Cerritos College for a 5:30 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
